I picked EARLY LITERACY STORYTIMES@YOUR LIBRARY: PARTNERING WITH
CAREGIVERS FOR SUCCESS by Saroj Nadkarni Ghoting.

I chose this book because it includes the relationship between storytime at public libraries, early literacy, and brain development. It also discusses pre-reading skills, the different types of intelligence, and the importance of recognizing and understanding emotional intelligence.

LEMONADE FOR SALE!

What started out as a friendly end of summer activity for brother and sister, Evan and Jessie, has turned into a very unfriendly competition when Evan finds out that his super smart sister will be skipping a grade and be in his fourth grade class. Evan and Jessie have their own worries about this news and it brings out the worst in each.

The Lemonade War by Jacqueline Davies is a great short read for third through fifth graders.

Competency 2-Adding a Blog Post to My Blog

I used Google.com to search for blogs. This blog is maintained by the staff of the Austin Public Library. This excerpt is from Back to School! at this URL

http://austinpubliclibrary.statesmanblogs.com/

Students around Austin are headed back to school today, so it's time once again for all those lovely homework assignments, tests, and science projects! If the school library is closed or doesn't have a resource available, the Austin Public Library can help. Our Homework Helpers databases have access to newspaper and magazine articles as well as dictionaries, encyclopedias, and other reference books. Most Austin Public Library databases can be accessed from home with a library card or at any library location without a card.
The Wired for Youth web site contains a list of homework and research links, book information, and technology links. You can also Ask a Librarian for help getting started.
